"Playgrounds as a means to connect people together, to increase a sense of community and to improve integration". DesignSpaceAfrica was approached by the Cape Town Book Fair in 2009 to design the Kids Zone of the expo. The brief required an area for storytelling, a library space, and comfortable reading places that would appeal to children visiting the expo with their parents.  The space was designed over a modulated ground floor plane of artificial grass and smooth pink surfaces.  A giant mobile of letters created an umbrella for the story telling space, and long green sausage shaped beanbags where arranged in a loose pile for children to appropriate and read on as they wished.  A playful warped wall created a separation and a bookshelf for books during the course of the expo.
