Porter Estate Development

The Porter Estate development proposal is a large scale mixed use  project that includes a number of character precincts within the Porter Estate locality.  The aims of the project were to capitalise on publicly owned land, by increasing residential densities within a well located and established community, providing redress to residents who were removed from the Greater Constantia area during apartheid;  as well as to develop an integrated approach to the management of human settlements, heritage and natural resources.

The place-making strategy adopted was to introduce a variety of housing typologies catering to mixed income residents whilst retaining the tranquil suburban character of the wider area.  Generous open spaces, walking paths and courtyard typologies were key design generators that allowed an increase in density without compromising on a quality environment.
